Cath led us on a superb trip to Galloway in southern Scotland, although perhaps the highlight was the surprise birthday party for … Cath herself! The hostel was very nice (except for the showers – two showers for 40 people, single glazed sash windows and no radiators ... what were they thinking?). A great walk up Merrick on Saturday, bitterly cold but well worth wrapping up warm for, and with the added bonus that the usual boggy ground was frozen solid. On Sunday, we woke to find thick snow on the hills … good thing we'd gone up on Saturday!
